Admission to Communion: Would you like your child to be prepared for Admission to Holy Communion this year? Children are welcome to receive Communion in the Church of England and it is the Diocese of Southwark’s practice to make such preparation available for children over the age of seven. At St John’s this reflects our commitment to the all-age, inclusive nature of the body of Christ. We are planning a series of preparation sessions for children during the 10am Mass on Sundays 13, 20, 27 June and plan to admit them during the 10am service on Sunday 11 July. The sessions have been carefully planned to be fun and age-appropriate. We will also be giving books and materials for children to bring home and discuss with you. In addition to the Sunday sessions, we hold an afternoon tea party at 4pm on Sunday 4 July, an opportunity for parents and children to explore together the meaning of Holy Communion. Please get in touch with Revd Gill if this is something you would like to choose for your child, or if you have any questions.

Goose Green Coffee Morning. On Wednesday 26 May at 12 o’clock Rosemary Shaw will be giving a talk about Hospital Chaplaincy, a chance to get an insight in to this essential role. Do come and join us, we are open from 11.30.

Help beat dementia. On Saturday 5 June Julie Whitney will be trekking 26 miles in order to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society. Please sponsor her by clicking here.

Do you have any interesting news for The Gander? If so, please speak to Christine Camplin, Jim Nurton, Sue O’Neill or Tayo Olatunde. We would particularly like to hear about:

  • Any hobbies or interests you have or anything new you’ve taken up recently.
  • If you have a new job or role, or have taken on new responsibilities.
  • Great recipes you recommend as well as book, film and music reviews.
  • Anything of local interest, such as recommended walks or bike rides.
  • Your experience of lockdown: how your life has changed, how you have adapted, and any tips you would like to share.

We can also include photos, short videos and audio clips so do speak to Christine, Jim, Sue or Tayo with any ideas, or send an email to the Parish Office.
