HARVEST-TIDE STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN – HELPING TO FINANCE THE WORK OF ST JOHN’S
St John’s aims to be a warm, welcoming and inclusive church in the heart of East Dulwich and Peckham, a community made up of people of all ages and backgrounds, seeking to explore and live out God’s vision for his people. The last eighteen months have been difficult for us all and during this time, we have sought to continue our mission of serving the local community. There is no doubt that we could not have achieved this without the generous support of our church community both financially and through the giving of your time and talents, thank you!
It costs us around £500 a day to keep the church open. As we approach harvest, to help us to continue and build on the work and mission that we undertake as a church, and in thankfulness for all God has given us, we are asking everyone who belongs to the church community to think about how you can help support the church financially by considering two things:
The first is to make or review your pledge to help support the work of St John’s by committing to the amount you can give to the church on a regular basis. The Church of England challenges its members to consider giving 5% of their income after tax to the Church. What you are able to give will depend on your personal circumstances and we realise that the pandemic has been a difficult time for many both emotionally and financially. Any extra you can pledge to give will be a great help and will enable us maintain and develop the work of our church. A regular donation helps us to plan, as we know what funds we will have to work with. If you are a tax payer, please do also Gift Aid your donations as this will increase the value of your donation by 25% at no additional cost to yourself.
The second thing is to consider giving through the Parish Giving Scheme “PGS”, PGS is a Direct Debit service. The attached leaflet and form clearly explain how the scheme works and how to join.
Committing to regular giving through the scheme has several benefits. If you are a taxpayer, PGS will claim the Gift Aid on your donation and send us the money each month which improves our cash flow, reduces our paperwork and helps our financial administration. There is also an option for your gift to be future-proofed by automatically increasing annually in line with inflation. Please note that if you tick this option, you will be sent a letter before the annual increase is applied, so that if you feel unable to make the increase you can notify PGS before any change is made. If you opt in to index link, you can always change your mind later. However, we hope you will consider this as it will really help our church to grow. Details of how to join the Parish Giving Scheme are given below.
We will of course continue to accept donations by Standing Order or you can join the envelope scheme, please ask for details, should you wish to start to give in this way.
If you have any questions about joining the PGS, members of the Stewardship Team and PCC will be available to provide help after the Services on 19th and 26th September in the large hall.
When you have considered how much and how you will give please complete the pledge form and return it to church in the envelope provided by the beginning of the Harvest Festival Service on 3rd October 2021. The pledges symbolise our commitment to supporting the church and will be taken up to the altar as part of the offertory.
Finally, please do complete and return a pledge form, even if you are unable to commit to giving at this time. Whatever you give is valued and appreciated, thank you.
MAKE A ONE-OFF DONATION TO ST JOHN’S
Please do not use this button for payments such as hall hire or wedding fees. For these please contact the Parish Office.
MAKE A REGULAR DONATION TO ST JOHN’S
Giving by Direct Debit or Standing Order provides us with regular income and a degree of certainty. If you are already a regular giver to St John’s we hope you can continue to support us and if you are able to increase your giving in any way then that would be much appreciated.
The best way for you to support St John’s on a regular basis is by joining the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS). This is a free Direct Debit scheme, enabling you to give safely and securely. We receive 100% of your donation and any Gift Aid is automatically claimed. This means reduced administration for our Treasurer and Gift Aid Secretary.
You can sign up online, by telephone or post. If you are a UK taxpayer please opt into Gift Aid as this will increase the value of your donation by 25% at no cost to yourself. Please choose to inflation-link your giving which will make a huge difference to our church’s finances.
To join via telephone, call 0333 002 1271 (lines are open Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm). You will need your personal bank account details, and our PGS details: church name – East Dulwich St John, PGS parish code – 370637042.
To join via post, please print, complete and post this gift form here.
If you are moving from giving by Standing Order to giving by the PGS, please don’t forget to cancel your existing Standing Order. It is best to do this once you have set up your Direct Debit as this will take 2 – 6 weeks to set up.
Giving by Standing Order
If you would prefer to give by Standing Order, or amend your existing Standing Order, you can download a copy of our Standing Order form here. If you are an eligible tax payer please consider gift aiding your donation. Completed forms should be sent to Martin Howell, Stewardship Secretary, at the address given on the form.
In the meantime, if you would like to make a donation online, you can do so above. We are extremely grateful for any support you can give while we continue to strive to be at the heart of our community.
ST JOHN’S FLOWER FUND
To commemorate a special occasion such as a wedding anniversary, birthday or in memory of a loved one, or to help pay for church flowers at major festivals, people often make a donation towards the church flowers.
Please click here if you wish to donate to the St John’s Flower Fund. These donations will be used for flowers in church on Sunday. If you would like to donate in name of a loved one or to mark a special anniversary then please contact the Parish Administrator.
GIFT AID DONATIONS
If you are an eligible UK taxpayer, you can increase the value of your gift at no cost to yourself by gift aiding it. Many of our ways of giving already include a gift aid declaration, however you can also download a separate Gift Aid declaration, which you should complete and send to the Parish Office marked for the attention of the Stewardship Secretary.
