Appointment of the Revd Patrick Eggleston as the next Team Rector of Thamesmead

Announcement made at St John’s, East Dulwich on Sunday 26 January 2014 by the Revd Canon Charles Richardson, Vicar of St John’s

I am delighted to announce that Bishop Christopher has appointed Father Patrick to be the next Team Rector of Thamesmead Team Ministry subject to completion of the usual procedures.

For those of you who do not know where Thamesmead is, it is at the far Eastern end of the Diocese of Southwark, on the other side of Woolwich from here.

This is a wonderful opportunity for Patrick and the Diocese has shown great confidence in him in appointing him to the post. Thamesmead is the largest parish in the Diocese, with a population of 48,000; it has three churches and one informal worship centre; sixteen primary schools, three secondary schools, six residential care homes, three prisons and a football club. There is also a strong ecumenical dimension to the parish, with a Local Ecumenical Partnership and a church-sharing arrangement at St Paul’s, Thamesmead. In his ministry team, Patrick will have two full time clergy working with him plus a Pioneer Youth Evangelist.

Patrick will not be leaving St John’s just yet. He will continue to be with us until his last Sunday here which is expected to be the 11th of May. It is also expected that he will be collated and inducted as Team Rector of Thamesmead on Thursday 26th June. So do make a note of those dates in your diaries and in the meantime keep him in your prayers as he prepares for this exciting new phase of his ministry.

Father Charles
