The Women’s Spirituality Group is a long-standing part of the life of St John’s. It has a core group of about ten members who meet monthly in each other’s houses, usually on the second Tuesday of the month, to share experiences, offer support, and explore how we can deepen our spirituality and make it a real part of our everyday lives.
Over the years we have covered a wide range of topics including:
- women in the Bible and the lives of Christian women in history
- topical ethical and social justice issues, such as food banks, climate change, GM crops, and trafficking
- approaches to prayer and liturgy
We’ve also had meditations and short services that we put together for ourselves. Our August meeting is a convivial meal and we share food in December as part of our Advent celebrations. Meetings end with a short liturgy or compline.
We also have occasionally activities such as going to the cinema and theatre as a group, organising meditative walks in the local area (once using a local labyrinth), and attending lectures, talks and workshops put on by other groups in London. We have also had weekends away together, devised evening services in St John’s to which everyone is invited, had circle dancing workshops, and decorated the Church for harvest.
Most, but not all, of the group worship at St John’s. Some people can only join us occasionally. We recognise that we all have busy lives, so our meetings are self-contained to allow for this.
All women are very welcome to join us.
