Revd Gill O’Neill, Vicar

Gill was installed as Vicar of St John’s in July 2016.
Originally from the North West, Gill was a Secondary RE teacher before training for Ordination at Ripon College Cuddesdon and serving her curacy in West Dulwich. Gill is a Diocesan Vocations Advisor and trains curates in reflective practice. She enjoys walks with the dog on Peckham Rye and French camping holidays with her family.

Revd Anne Clarke, Assistant Priest

Anne has worshipped at St John’s since 1988 and was ordained priest in October 2005. The eldest of five children of the vicar of St Swithun’s, Hither Green, Anne has lived in East Dulwich with her husband, Peter Bibby, since 1977. From 1975 to 1998 Anne taught English in secondary schools in Lambeth and Kent. She was a lay magistrate for 25 years, sitting on the adult and family benches and was also a member of the Special Educational Needs Tribunal. Anne’s interests include reading, theatre, travelling and walking.

Revd Alistair McCulloch, Assistant Priest

As well as being a part-time Assistant Priest at St John’s, Alistair is the Lead Chaplain at the Royal Marsden, a specialist cancer centre based in Chelsea and Sutton, Surrey. He is also a Vocations Adviser for the Diocese of Southwark. Ordained in 1987 he served two curacies in Portsmouth before becoming a Vicar in Reading. In 2000 he joined the Chaplaincy Team at King’s College Hospital and then in 2004 was appointed to the Royal Marsden. Alistair is especially interested in the area of world faiths and religious tolerance and has completed an MA in Inter-religious Dialogue at the University of London.

Joy Taylor, Churchwarden & Deanery Rep

A civil servant for over 26 years, Joy was born and raised in south London and now lives in West Norwood with the younger of her two children. She became a member of our congregation, along with her son Shaquille, after attending her nephew’s wedding at St John’s in 2002.  Loving the friendly atmosphere and worship Joy decided to stay.
Thirteen years later and Joy has been involved in Sunday school, was the Sidesperson coordinator and is still a member of the sidesperson team. She has also previously served on the PCC. She is a member of the Woolwich Minority Ethnic Anglican Concerns Committee, is a minister of communion and sits on St John’s PCC, as well as Dulwich Deanery Synod and was recently co-opted to the Diocesan Council of Trustees.


Michael and his wife Ann have lived in the parish for over 25 years and have worshipped at St John’s since they moved to the parish. Michael has served as a Churchwarden in the past and as a PCC member. He is also a member of the choir. A retired Civil Servant, Michael’s last post was with the Business Innovation & Skills Department. Michael is a Justice of the Peace on the South London bench. A keen bell-ringer and voracious reader with a love of music, mainly classical and sacred. Michael and Ann have three children who were all baptised here at St John’s.”

Eurica Shaw

Eurica Shaw

An active member of St John’s Church, Eurica was commissioned into the SPA Ministry on 30 June 2009.  Her main interest, outreach ministry, includes pastoral care to the less able in society.  Eurica loves people and finds them fascinating. Having previously worked in the NHS and the community, Eurica has taken further education courses in social sciences, gerontology and psycho-analysis. She has a strong liking for history, geography, current affairs and biblical studies and her hobbies include travelling, walking, singing, music and social events.

John Webber, Director of Music

John Webber, Director of Music

John’s first appointment as an organist was at St Swithun’s, Hither Green when he was just 15! Since then he has held similar positions at St George’s, Beckenham, St George’s, Bickley and Chelsea Old Church. John has been Director of Music at St John’s from 1993 to 1997 and again from February 2003. Since that time a Junior Choir has been re-established and the adult Choir has continued to contribute to the worship by the singing of anthems and the inclusion of solo items.
John gained his Royal College of Organist diplomas in 1967 and 1970, was awarded a Durham Bachelor of Music degree in 1982 and the Archbishops’ Diploma in Church Music in 1986.
John has been married to Maggie since 1982.

Sarah Goudge, Treasurer

Sarah has worshipped at St John’s since 1980 when she first moved to East Dulwich. At that time she was teaching Latin and other Classical subjects, having graduated in Classics in 1976.

In 1989 she embarked on a new career in the Civil Service, training as a Tax Inspector in the Inland Revenue (now HMRC). While training she met John whom she married, at St John’s, in 1994. That year they moved to Sydenham, together with Herman the cat, but Sarah has continued to worship at St John’s and became Parish Clerk a couple of years later.
In 2015 she retired from the Civil Service and, with more time available, was elected to the PCC and became Treasurer. Since 2008 she has served as a magistrate on the South London adult and youth benches. Her other interests include singing with Lewisham Choral Society, gardening, reading and good food.

Irma Bell, Deputy Warden Emeritus

Irma served as Deputy Warden for two years and is now Deputy Warden Emeritus.
