The Robes Project helps people who are homeless in our communities. Alongside 30 Church venues and over 1000 volunteers, Robes supports people who find themselves homeless with shelter and vital welfare advice, enabling them to access services and accommodation.
Usually we would be welcoming Robes guests to stay in the Goose Green Centre one night a week as part of the night shelter scheme. This year the project is operating differently but the good news is St John’s will still be involved in supporting Robes guests.
Robes in 2021
This year it is not possible for guests to move between venues or share facilities (such as sleeping together in a hall or shared meals). Instead guests on the project will be staying in hotel accommodation. Participating churches have formed a rota to provide guests with support packages. Each week a different church provides every guest with a support package that includes food, toiletries and other supplies.
how can I help?
At St John’s we will be donating 35 support packages on the week starting 15th March. There are several ways you can help:
- Donate a whole support package for one guest
- Donate some items to contribute to a support package for guests
- Help to pick up donations from volunteers’ homes (who are unable to get to the church to drop their items)
- Help to compile support packages ready for delivery
- Make a financial contribution towards the contents of a support package
